I’ve known I need an about page for a long time, but I’ve no idea what to say, where to start or how to explain why this blog exists or what you’ll gain from reading it.
I’m Bronwen, that’s as good a start as any. I’m a book worm, a perfectionist, a big sister and a music and history graduate. I love to read, to travel, to eat, to write and to sing. Nothing makes me happier than sticking one of Passenger’s albums on the record player, setting up in a comfy chair with a cuppa and a packet of crisps and reading a good book or three.
Since the age of 5 I’ve been telling people I want to be an author or as I get older, a journalist: Younger Bronwen stapled pieces of A5 paper together, designed front covers in felt-tip and crayon and then wrote numerous ‘Chapter Ones’ for what she planned would be hugely successful novels. She bought note pads and then ripped out all the pages just because she decided the story she’d written inside wasn’t worthy of publishing.
I went to my first singing lesson at the age of 9. I owe everything to music. Nothing clears my head more than an hour spent at the piano singing and playing until I forget what on Earth I had to escape from in the first place. I feel like I’d be a shadow of the person I am now if I’d never found music. Perhaps most importantly, when I’m singing the butterflies go away.
And by butterflies I mean the tight knot in my stomach that lingers constantly and squirms every now and then making me feel sick and scared and small. You see, in my first year at university I was diagnosed with Generalised Anxiety Disorder. The disorder came to light because moving away from home, living with strangers, joining a whole new music department and starting a degree was almost too much for me to handle.
However, with the help of the amazing people in my life, the brilliant staff at my university, music and my diary (a diary I’d written in, on a password protected word document, on my computer since I was 14 and still write in now) I made it through and am now a graduate.
I first posted to the blog at the start of my second year of university, terrified about facing it all over again but determined to conquer life regardless. The first ever blog post began as a diary entry. When I sat back and reread it, I realised I wanted to share it with the world and I did and that was that. There are still many times when I write just to my diary, when the content is too personal to share, but when possible I publish here.
So I suppose, here you’ll simply find published diary entries. Colloquial, honest posts that I write because I love to write them and because I hope that people will enjoy reading them.
In ‘More from Me’ you’ll find random bits and bobs. ’10 reasons to read more’ is one of the most popular posts and one of my favourites.
Dip in and out as you please. Start right at the very beginning or start in the here and now and please feel free to leave comments, I’d love to hear from you!
